Ratnaja Katneni MD is a double board certified physician in Nephrology and Internal Medicine and has been practicing medicine since 2001. She is a clinical and clinical research trained internist and nephrologist with residency and fellowship training in academia and community settings including University of Texas Southwestern/Parkland Hospital, Stanford, McLaren Regional Medical Center, Michigan State University, University of Michigan. She has been in private practice since 2008 in Cleveland Clinic community hospitals before moving to Newport Beach in 2015. She has been a member of Hoag Newport Beach and Hoag Irvine since 2015. She started her private outpatient nephrology practice in Newport Beach in 2021 and is accepting new patients.

Kidney disease
Chronic kidney disease and end stage kidney disease has many causes with predominant causes being diabetes and high blood pressure. Early detection of chronic kidney disease and managing risk factors, avoiding medications that can cause and worsen kidney failure can prevent progression to dialysis.
Our practice goal is to help identify factors that cause progressive and worsening kidney failure and work with you closely to help mitigate these risk factors.
A team approach with your primary care and other specialists is essential to have the most optimum care delivered to you.

While some forms of kidney disease are reversible, especially kidney disease related to dehydration or acute insult, many forms of kidney disease cause significant damage to the kidneys making one dialysis dependent (more about dialysis in another section)
Often patients come in to our office fearing the worst outcomes and we are here to review your condition and direct you with the most appropriate treatment plan. Sometimes treatment may be holding your hand for reassurance and repeat a test, and at other times much more. Either way, we are here for you.
